On Friday, May 14th we took off to Madrid for a short weekend trip! After a train journey, we arrived in Madrid around 11 am and had a couple of hours to ourselves to grab lunch before our guided tour of the city. The tour took us to several historical sites, but the standout was an Egyptian temple that had been submerged in the ocean and was subsequently brought to Madrid. Spain played a role in keeping the temple in tact, highlighting the intriguing Egyptian connections within the country. Another intriguing fact was that Madrid had been a significant location during the Spanish Civil War, adding a layer of historical significance to the city.
The following day, we visited the Museo del Prado, a renowned art museum in Spain. Although photography was prohibited, the museum left a lasting. I enjoyed the Goyo exhibit at the museum, showcasing the talent of the artist. If you are into art recommend a visit to this museum for anyone in Madrid, as it offers a captivating collection of artworks.
The trip to Madrid provided a wonderful opportunity to explore the city’s historical landmarks and indulge in its rich artistic heritage. From the unique Egyptian temple, to seeing a bust of Don Quixote to the awe-inspiring artwork at the Museo del Prado, the trip left me with a newfound appreciation for the cultural and historical treasures that Madrid has to offer.
While the city of Madrid was gorgeous, I couldn’t help but notice how touristy and similar it was to New York City. I was not the biggest fan of that, but overall had a good time.
