Hi Everyone,
Today we had a guest lecture with journalist, author, and professor Benjamin Cunningham. He spoke to us about international media and how it differs based on the country you’re living in. I was surprised to learn that the U.S. ranks #45 in the world for journalists’ safety! I did think it would be higher up on the list but to be fair I didn’t know too much about the journalism culture in other countries. There was a pretty significant difference between where Canada and the United Kingdom ranked compared to us! I feel like those two countries are compared as the closest to the U.S. He gave a lot of valuable advice and really opened my eyes to how the climate for journalists is wherever you go.
After the guest lecture, we went to MediaPro where we got a tour of their facilities and see how their equipment works! I really enjoyed the visit and think this is one of my favorite things we’ve done since we arrived. While I found this super interesting, I do feel bad for students who aren’t as into things like this and could see why it may have been a bit boring for them.
I had a really great day at MediaPro and am really glad we got to go see their building. They truly are forging the future of sports journalism!
See you again,
Hannah
