Our day started off with our guest lecture with Benjamin Cunningham, who is a journalist and author. It was great seeing his perspective of media from an international standpoint, and having moved from the United States to Europe to pursue work. It was enlightening seeing how poorly the U.S. compares to other countries in journalism, from safety, to comprehension, to quality. This was one of the first moments where I saw the vast differences in media, and started seeing the globalized perspective of media that I traveled to understand. From his lecture, working as s foreign correspondent seems very interesting. He has also started writing his own books, and has one published that is about a sleeper agent in the United States. I really liked the perspectives that he shared, and I will keep this new view of media with me as I go into the industry.
Later in the day we toured at MediaPro which is the main production company that covers LaLiga. To summarize, the Spanish version of an ESPN network. This tour was like a playground for me. We first saw their virtual set that had a camera connected to their computer that runs Unreal Engine, allowing them to record and use virtual sets that go beyond a 2d scale. They create 3d digital environments for news, commercials, or other projects which allows for physical camera movement and interaction with the virtual environment! It was amazing seeing how high tech their studio was. It was also really cool to see their other studio where they film their LaLiga shows, and even showed us how they create a false hologram effect for interviews with players! It was a dream come true being able to see studios like this as a broadcast major!
