This day was full of learning about work life and businesses in Barcelona. Our guest lecture and business visit were centered around media and journalism, and even though I’m not a journalism or communications major, I had a really good day learning about this industry.
This guest lecture was probably my favorite. A journalist and professor originally from the United States, named Benjamin Cunningham, came in and spoke to us about his decades of experience as an international journalist. After leaving the US, he followed stories all around Europe, and ended up in places like Prague and Serbia. He faced a lot of challenges, like language barriers, differences in cultural norms, and political turmoil in the countries he visited, but he continued to write. One article he wrote that really stood out to him and had a larger story behind it, he has turned into his first book. The Liar: How a Double Agent in the CIA Became the Cold War’s Last Honest Man was published in 2022, and is available on Amazon! As a reader, this one is must for me, and how cool is it that we’ve met the author!
Our business visit this evening was at a television studio called Mediapro. It was a subway ride away from CEA and was in a very nice, business area of Barcelona. Compared to the US’s ESPN, Mediapro has several massive studios, and is very well-known in sports media in Spain. They had some really impressive hologram and green screen technology, and their equipment was very advanced. I really appreciated them taking the time to show us around their place, and the students who are involved with the shows at Point park were really excited to see this level of technology. Thanks MediaPro!
And thanks Benjamin Cunningham!
