For our guest lecture today, we had the founder and creative director of the Kings of Mambo, a graphic studio in Barcelona, come in and tell us a little bit about his work. While he’s running this studio, he is also a professor at IDEP Barcelona, and his days are usually packed full of clients and exciting projects.
He gave a little background on the name of his company, Kings of Mambo. Mambo can mean everything in Catalan, and he joked with friends about this company being the kings of everything in the world of technology. He was proud to have this blend of language in the title of his company, and connect it back to Catalonia.
With over 20 years of experience in this field, Ortega has made many connections with major businesses and companies in Barcelona, and does a lot of brand work with them. The studio focuses on developing brand identities on their clients’ social media and websites, as well as creating project and product campaigns. When he was naming some of the major businesses they work with, I actually recognized some of them just from seeing advertisements around Barcelona. For example, they work closely with the brand Veranda, a television and film company I’ve seen around, and they primarily run campaigns for them of their latest project. They work with a variety of clients, including a humanities group called Future For Work.
Ortega explained that in his 20 years of working with graphics and technology, he has seen a lot of changes. As sites like Adobe advance and as software continues to advance, his studio must also keep up with this pace and adjust, to put out their best work and stay up to date. He explained that the latest revolutionary advancement has been AI Generation, and is unsure where this will take us in the near future, as this is rapidly becoming popular.
The projects and work he presented to us was really interesting to see, because I do not have much experience myself working with graphics and website design. I’m very grateful he came in to talk with our class and his english was great!
Thank you, Kings of Mambo!
