So far so good! The food has been great! On May 8, 2023 our class got to do a cooking class with head chef Johan. We started the class with getting a history lesson on our main meals, Tapas. If you remember from my last post, Tapas are small mini plates that you have before your meal. Tapas are a big deal here in Spain. Legend has it that there once was a king who ruled over Spain and unfortunately got sick. The king’s head chefs got the idea that to sustain the king’s large appetite they needed to create multiple small plates that the king could have throughout the day. The king agreed and before you knew it his health improved. Our goal for this Cooking class was to create multiple Tapas. I was put in the group that made Pan Con Tomate. This is Toasted bread with a hint of garlic sliced tomato juice, Slices of cheese on the side and salami and drizzled olive oil. This is a very popular tapas at restaurants. The next Tapas which I believe is called Salmorejo is a soup/ drink concoction that consists of the skin of a tomato, garlic, peppers and more. We had small cups of Salmorejo which turned out really good. Stuff peppers with tuna and cream cheese mmmhmmm, Need I say more? This next one I was nervous to try but did and was pretty happy with it, Deviled eggs. Overall I enjoyed
Outside of class the food and drink journey continues. In Barcelona, Spain there is a good community of Asian food. I had a spicy Ramen noodle bowl with sweet shrimp, boiled egg, chicken bites, onions and a spicy sauce on the side. This was one of the best ramen bowls I’ve Had
On a late night stroll on the Barcelona streets while I waited for my reservation at Paradiso I came across a small cafe and had a warm salmon sandwich with lettuce and cream cheese. This was very light, refreshing and filling.
After waiting for an hour I made it to my reservation at the Paradiso. This is a drink and tapas. However, These are not your regular drinks, These are fun, interactive drinks. I had a Tesla drink which was sweet, saline and refreshing. When the waiters bring out this drink, It comes with an electromagnet pole/plate that allows you to see the light move off of the cup and by touching it, moves as well.
