RONA G.

How old were you when you first started getting into collecting vinyl records?

I’ve been collecting since I was 15 years old.

What was the first record you ever owned?

High Voltage AC/DC.

How many records do you have in your collection?

Over 100 records.

What genres do you collect?

Everything! Majority classic rock. I collect artists more so then genres.

Why do you love collecting vinyl records?

It began as a way to connect with my dad. Now I love collecting records not only to connect with my dad but also because when it’s a physical act of turning on music and not just plugging in a phone, you have more intention behind the music you choose, and I love that.

What is the most recent record you got for your collection?

Indigo by RM. It’s a Korean rap/hip hop album featuring artists like Erykah Badu, Anderson .Paak, and more.

Where is your go-to place to look for records in Pittsburgh? And Why?

Jerrys! Mostly for nostalgia. I don’t go there looking for specific records, more to be inspired and get some spontaneous finds!

What is your all time favorite record you have in your collection?

For nostalgia, an original pressing of Hotel California. For being impressive, an original pressing of Thriller.

What is that one record you really want, but don't have yet?

Siberia Acoustic by lights.

Why Vinyl and not CDs or digital?

The physical act of choosing music as I said before but also I also think albums are meant to be listened to in a certain order. There is an art to putting together a tracklist. What songs come first, what songs proceed, how they close the album etc… phones are too easy to skip or shuffle!

If you could recommend any album, what would it be?

Slow Train Coming by Bob Dylan or Indigo by RM.
