City Books

City Books is a used book store that opened in 1984 and since has gone on to host different local writers in residency. Located on the North Side, the store focuses on creating a safe space for sharing discussions and creative ideas on all types of subjects. With a plethora of used and collectable books, it’s small but mighty.

The book shop strives to promote diversity and equality as much as possible. City Books even recently hosted a book launch party for Working It: Sex Workers on the Work of Sex edited by Matilda Bickers, Janis Luna, and Peech Breshears, with a foreword by Molly Smith. The event included a clothing swap and potluck to promote a sense of community.

The store makes sure to have a variety of informational displays dealing with books, Pittsburgh, and beyond. City Books is also big about featuring Pittsburgh authors front and center. The way the store is set up shows customers the store really cares about the community and the people who make the store last.
