After that, Kristie was invited to teach stage movement around 2009\/2010, then was asked to teach somatics for the dance department until 2019. Prior to becoming a professor at Park Park, Kristie was a dance major from 1998-2003 having to step away early due to cardiovascular concerns. Being involved at Point Park through a range of lenses has provided an abundance of information on a personalized experience with presentation at Point Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\" style=\"text-transform:lowercase\">dress code<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">As a student, Kristie&#8217;s dress code went as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-white-color has-text-color wp-block-list\" style=\"font-size:14px;text-transform:lowercase\">\n<li>Ballet\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> pink tights, black leotards (female presenting dancers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>white compressed shirts and black tights (male presenting dancers)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some allowance for very simple color leotards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Modern\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>all black form fitting clothes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>leotard and tights for female presenting dancers.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Jazz\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>form fitting clothes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li> \u201cjunk\u201d\/layers were allowed for warm up only if teacher allowed<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/466345_274493259308803_715933106_o-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-88\" width=\"342\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/466345_274493259308803_715933106_o-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/466345_274493259308803_715933106_o-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/466345_274493259308803_715933106_o-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/466345_274493259308803_715933106_o.jpg 817w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 342px) 100vw, 342px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Kristie in modern or jazz dress code as a student<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">As an instructor, Kristie&#8217;s class was not a technique class so her only requests were for attire to <strong>show the lines of the body and not restrict any movement<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">trends<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">In terms of clothing trends, Kristie noted that there was no drastic change in what was worn from when she was a student to when she was a teacher. The only noticeable difference were the <strong>styles<\/strong> and <strong>fabrics<\/strong> that were worn. Trends she recognized at Point Park were <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">earth\/muted tones<\/span> and the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">combination of cropped wide-leg pants with a fitted crop top<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">costuming<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">Kristie, being a modern concentration, was primarily cast in primarily modern pieces. She shared her experience of shaving her hair and dying it, covering all aspects of style and color a person could while she was at Point Park. While this posed general issues when it came to performances, it didn\u2019t prevent Kristie from expressing herself or getting cast.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/284052_123100584448072_2791607_n.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-94\" width=\"360\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/284052_123100584448072_2791607_n.jpg 720w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/284052_123100584448072_2791607_n-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Kristie in the dressing room with friend<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">With Point Park&#8217;s repetition of Jazz Nutcracker and Cinderella during Kristie&#8217;s time as a student, she noted the reuse of costumes. This still is a very common practice because of costume accumulation, especially with tradition or classical pieces. Alongside these recurring productions were the resident, faculty, and student choreography shows. Presentation and perception of the body either offered or hindered opportunities in the dance world. <\/em><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-white-color has-text-color has-small-font-size\">Lindbloom, Kristie, 3\/28\/2023, Via <em>Zoom<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-top is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color has-background has-medium-font-size\" style=\"background-color:#ae4e09b3;text-transform:lowercase\">Latrea Rembert<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#7e4343;font-size:16px\">LaTrea Rembert is a Point Park graduate with a B.A. in Theatre and a minor in Dance, and has now returned as a jazz professor this past year (2023). Offering insight through a different, but related, lens, LaTrea brings a more current perspective to this project. This conversation specifically extends to the presentation of dancers within their identity and accommodations (or lack thereof) through the 2010&#8217;s. LaTrea also highlights the numerous ways that presentation holds values both in and out of performance for dancers at Point Park<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">\u201cIn your opinion, what is the significance of the presentation of dancers on stage? Or artists on stage?\u201d<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">&nbsp;\u201cThe importance is high. It&#8217;s actually important with dance specifically. <em>I think that makes or breaks a piece of work<\/em>. And it only should be heightening or completing the vision. It should add a life element that the movement itself&nbsp;should possess but I feel like the costuming and presentation should elevate it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"820\" src=\"https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screen-Shot-2023-04-12-at-9.49.01-PM-1024x820.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screen-Shot-2023-04-12-at-9.49.01-PM-1024x820.png 1024w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screen-Shot-2023-04-12-at-9.49.01-PM-300x240.png 300w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screen-Shot-2023-04-12-at-9.49.01-PM-768x615.png 768w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screen-Shot-2023-04-12-at-9.49.01-PM-1536x1231.png 1536w, https:\/\/pointparksocstudent.com\/S23Keep\/dancearchives4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Screen-Shot-2023-04-12-at-9.49.01-PM.png 1770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>LeTrea in <em>Wig Out! <\/em>(2016) with The REP<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">trends<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">While the traditional &#8220;dance look&#8221; is still a fundamental part of dance attire, Latrea had noted the adaptation that has been made to it from his time as a student until now with more stylized choices being made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">Trends during his time as a student in dance classes included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"has-white-color has-text-color wp-block-list\">\n<li>oversized shorts over sweat or track pants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>layering and warmer\/ cold weather attire during classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>freedom in wearing personalized warm-ups during jazz classes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color\">accommodations<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\"><em>Q: \u201cDo you feel as though during that time, there were accommodations being made for artists of color? For example, with \u201cnude\u201d attire or matching material to one\u2019s skin color, were there any interferences?\u201d&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">&nbsp;A: \u201cNot that I heard of. I could be wrong. There&#8217;s a possibility that I didn&#8217;t see it, but to my knowledge, no. I\u2019m not sure if it means anything, but we did have Black, ballerinas if you will. However, when it came to casting ballet productions, not too many dancers of color were in them. They were showcased more in the modern pieces and things of that nature. That might have something to do with that, too. Maybe? Since I\u2019ve been here, that\u2019s what I have noticed. Do you feel as though that was embraced in your time here?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">A: &nbsp;\u201cNot in a sense of like, one can be gender non-conforming and I hate to use air-quotes, but it\u2019s more of a \u2018thing\u2019 now. Granted, those who weren\u2019t conforming to gender still existed, still participated, and were around. However, they did fall in line with their assigned gender. I don&#8217;t think any students identifying as trans were in the dance department either. If they were, they weren\u2019t announcing it. Many just adapted to normal, gender body roles. His position as an artist in the company involves his presentation as a dancer at a professional level. This gives perspective to how costuming and identity can change in individual works or company environments beyond college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">When asked about this specifically, LaTrea responded as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-white-color has-text-color\">&nbsp;\u201cI have been dancing for Stacy Pearl for almost ten years now. I found my freedom in looking femme because she typically only puts me in women&#8217;s attire, which is fine for me. So I guess there is a liberation in that, but most of her work is focused on black femininity, black femme-identity, and even gender expression. That\u2019s been my professional experience, that I haven&#8217;t been \u201cboxed-in\u201d, as an artist specifically. My androgynous qualities are very embraced or maybe it\u2019s just me and who I am, that seems to enjoy my natural fluidity.
