RTÉ Tour & Irish Dancing Class

We started our day with a tour RTE, Ireland’s top news broadcasting station. We got to tour the “control” room and saw inside the actual set of the broadcasts. And then we got to watch a live broadcast. I’ll admit, I wasn’t super interested in the inner workings of broadcasting at first. I find the beginning of the tour to be kind of dull and uninteresting. Then they did a test run of the broadcast and my interest started to be piqued. But then, as the broadcast started and the real action began, it was kind of riveting. How each person did their job in real time so quickly without error. It was like a well-oiled machine and it was fascinating.

After the tour we had a short break for lunch and I got Bambino’s, which was a pizza spot by Grafton Street. It was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had.

Then on the way to our second activity of the day, I saw a lady feeding some geese in the park, which brightened my day a bit.

We had our Irish dance class in the afternoon and this was probably my favorite school related activity of the trip. I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical of our instructor at first. He did not look like a dancer whatsoever. And as he began, my feelings weren’t immediately proven wrong. But what he lacked in dance prowess, he made up for with his music. He played us a song on the guitar and I was instantly entranced. Normally, a guy pulls out a guitar at the function and I cringe, but this guy won me over. He taught us a lot about Irish music and its history and played us some more with other instrument, very impressively. Then he taught us some Irish dance steps. Now, was I a tad underwhelmed by what we learned and was hoping for something a bit harder? Yes. But it was still fun and I had a good time.
