A Dream behind the News

My trip to the RTE studio was like a dream come true to a film student. It was also kind of interesting seeing what it was like to film news live in a country like Ireland compared to the way they film News in the United States of America.

I also feel really fortunate that once they got done filming a news segment they let us go into the Newsroom and let us check out the area, they even showed and taught us about some the equipment they used to film broadcasts in Dublin and even let us take pictures in the studio.

Another thing that was also pretty interesting that we learned while we were at the studio was about Ireland We’re their politics, like learning that unlike America they don’t have a two party system like we do and also that when they talk about two sides having arguments they usually look at what both sides have to say, things such as the war in Gaza and Ukraine. Whenever I compare US politics with Ireland’s, I kind of notice how their approach tends to be more focused on open dialogue and cooperation, rather than constant division. It was really eye-opening to see how their media reflects this as well, giving airtime to a wider range of viewpoints and encouraging more balanced discussions.

I really appreciated coming to the RTE studio because when I saw everything there I thought what if some day I could work here to help film news.
