May 16: Museums and Club
Me and Mel started the day by possibly getting tattoos. We walked to a tattoo shop with Alex, Grace, and Sav with the hopes of the prices being low. I would never go through with getting a tattoo, but the idea was fun. Their starting price is 80 Euros, so there is no way we had the money to spend. Grace and Alex ended up going through with the plan, so we sat with them while they waited for their turn. While we were waiting, Maddie texted us asking if we were still interested in checking out the photography museums. Of course Mel said yes, since she has been looking forward to seeing some things related to her major. So we wished them good luck with the tattoos, and went to go meet up with Maddie, Paula, and Sydney at the hotel.
We ended up going to 3 different museums in the short time we had before our scheduled lecture. All of them were free, which was very helpful for us broke girls. The first one reminded me of the Mattress Factory Museum in Pittsburgh. It was very compact with not a lot of interesting things to see. There was a whole floor of just pictures of curtains. There was also little to no context of the pictures. I don’t think it was the museum we expected it to be, so we left to go find that one. The next museum we went to was a one floor museum, but it had a good number of pictures in it. I preferred this one because the pictures were more than just curtains, it was something that told a story I understood. Since we had some extra time, we decided to head over to another museum that was close to our lecture space. This museum was what I picture an art museum to be. There were multiple floors of art pieces, but me and Mel stayed on the first floor. The art was actually beautiful and full of talent. Art museums nowadays tend to just be filled with modern art that I could recreate with my eyes closed. It was refreshing to see old fashioned art and it was cool to see things like the artist’s thought behind it, how old they were when they created it, how long they lived for, etc. Before we left, I stopped at the gift shop to find my sister a souvenir since she loves art, and I cannot wait to give her the gift.
To finish off the day, half of our class went to the club! We all met up at the pub since everyone wanted to be tipsy going into the club. It was such a fun night we ended up staying out until 1 am. It was fun unwinding with almost the entirety of our class and seeing how everyone is outside of our formal class visits. It was a bit sad though, knowing this is the last time we would all get to hang out for the rest of the trip. I am lucky I went on this trip with these fun amazing students!
