Spain!

Being in Europe for the first time, I knew that I had to take advantage of my close proximity to other countries and travel outside of Ireland. And it just so happens that one of my life-long friends is studying abroad in Spain at the same time I’m in Europe. Luckily, our schedules aligned and we planned a day that I would come into Spain and we would hang out. But, due to activites planned the next day, I only had a singular day to spend in Spain. So, I had to make the most of it.

So me and Ayden hopped on plane at 6 a.m. and flew into Alicante. It’s an absolutely beautiful city that’s right on the coast. My friend had classes during the day, so our plan was to meet up later in the afternoon. The first thing we did was grab some breakfast. With some guidance, from my friend, we went to Oakberry and got açaí bowls. And they were the best açaí bowls I’ve ever had. Then, right next to Oakberry was the Basilica of St Mary so we stopped in there. I absolutely love religious architecture and think cathedrals are often some of Earth’s most beautiful man-made structures. And this place was no exception.

Then we went to the Castle of Santa Barbara, which has a stunning view of all of the city. It’s a bit a trek, but it was absolutely worth it. Afterwards, we sat on the beach for a couple hours. Then, my friend got out of class and we got churros and chocolate and then some drinks. We met up with some of her friends who she’s studying abroad with.

We stayed out for a long time just talking and catching up. Then we finished the day at a really cool nightclub. I didn’t understand a single lyric of the music, but I had so much fun. All in all, for only one day, we did so much and it was one fo the best parts of the whole trip.
