One unexpected activity I took part in was going to a metal concert in Dublin with two friends from the class. This is something I never would have expected to do but It was a great experience so I’m glad I went.
I don’t go to many concerts so that alone would have been a unique experience for me, but I’ve never been to a metal concert particularly. The band playing was called Gamma Bomb and I made it a point to not listen to any of their music prior to the concert. I wanted to experience the concert with no prior experience or knowledge about the band or their respective genre of music.
The venue was relatively small, with the concert happening in one large room with a small stage in the far end and a small bar near the entrance. Their was an eclectic range of people there. From older metal heads to younger people going to their first metal concert. All of them were welcoming and loquacious people.
The music was loud but coherent enough that I could understand the music. Speakers so loud the reverberations could be felt in the floor and deep in my chest. The band members were wildly energetic. The lead singer was doing pull ups on a lowhangin metal pipe over the stage in between songs.
One of my friends was even noticed my the band members for being an avid head banger. She was given a free band shirt for her apparent enthusiasm.
I will admit my ears rang all night after the show and my voice was sore the next day. However, I regret absolutely nothing. I got my own band shirt after the concert ended and I am contemplating going to a metal concert here in the United States.
