Day Two: Dublin Walking Tour

The smart thing to when traveling abroad for three weeks with limited funds would be to budget your food spending. During our tour on the first day, we were introduced to Lidl, which is essentially Irish Aldi’s. Many of my tripmates took advantage of the cheap food and did some grocery shopping to help feed themselves without wasting all of their money in the first week of the trip.

I was not a fan of the smart thing to do. I’m personally more in the camp of “I may never be back in this city again, so I’m going to eat all of its food as I can regardless of how much it costs me.” Let’s see how well that idea pans out. (Hint: badly) So, to start my second day, I did some food searching. And in that process I found quite possibly the favorite place of the entire trip: Lemon Jelly Cafe. Listen: I don’t do breakfast like that, okay. It is rare that I ever eat it. And we saw some pretty amazing, historic, culturally significant sites on our trip. But damn it, few things came close to Lemon Jelly Cafe for me. I got a raspberry smoothie and a banana-nutella crepe. You wanna know how good they were? I came back four more times just to order those two items. That’s how good.

On the itinerary for the day was a walking tour which….wasn’t exactly my vibe. I’m not a big fan of tours. I much prefer to find things for myself than be led somewhere and then stand in place listening to lecture for 10+ minutes. But between the annoyances, the tour did allow me to see a lot of Dublin. Something I thought as we walked was that Dublin felt very similar to Boston to me. And I love Boston so…that’s nice, I suppose.
