May 15th: Day Ten
Today was Kira and I’s flight back to Dublin. We checked out of our place a little before 9 AM, and caught a bus into Venice, where we took another bus to the airport. Our flight was at 1:30, but we decided to just hang out at the airport for a few hours since we had no time to do anything in Venice before we left.
After getting at the airport, we decided to get some breakfast, and met this nice couple from Dublin who we talked to for almost three hours. Both of our flights got delayed, hence why we were talking for so long, but they really helped us all pass the time waiting for our gates to open. Somehow, Kira and I did not realize our plane was starting to board, so we had to run across the airport to our gate.
Once we got there, we did not start boarding for another 30 minutes, so we did not have to rush, but that airport was definitely confusing. We eventually got onto our flight and started making our way back to Dublin, where we had to leave straight from the airport to the EPIC Museum. We made it there 15 minutes late but was still impressive for us to get there that quickly after our flight getting delayed.
The Museum was very interesting and informative. It was interesting to learn how people migrated, and how far back the first people started migrating out of Ireland. I could not imagine taking a boat from Ireland to east coast of America, our seven-hour flight was already enough for me. So many people left the country, so it is crazy to think how populated this small country used to be.
One of my favorite parts of the museum was the sports section. It was interesting to see how much Irish influence, whether it be players moving to play a popular American sport, or to see players with Irish last names. Baseball is my favorite sport, so I was surprised to see different players or staff I have heard of before having some Irish connection.
