Biz Cas

May 8: Guest Lecturer Roddy Flynn and Print Museum

Here’s to our first biz cas day! I found it very interesting seeing everyone so dressed up since we usually just wear hoodies and sweatpants and call it a day. We were up bright and early at 8 am where we had a 30-minute walk to the classroom on top of having to walk up 2 flights of stairs to said classroom. Very unexpectantly steep stairs which my ankles absolutely hated me for. We learned about the history behind mass media. I learned that the U.S. does play a huge role in Ireland’s involvement in media. I also realized why I can only watch 3 channels on the T.V. It is because that is really all they have. It is very different than the U.S. which is fun to explore.

Once we left the lecture, we had 2 hours to walk around the area. We went to a strip of shops and cafes that are all along the canal. A small group of us went to Insomnia. It is a little café located in Dublin. I got to try a white hot chocolate, raspberry white chocolate muffin, and a chocolate croissant. They were all very delicious. While we were eating, the workers offered us a sample of their new orange milkshake in return for them filming our reaction to it for their social media. This was cool to be featured on their socials while getting to taste new sweet treats around us. We ended up running into another small group from our class and walked around a new area until we had to go to the museum.

We ended up at the City Works which was very interesting to see. It reminded me of the Orlando airport with the built-in hotel. They look identical.

The Print Museum was definitely more interesting than I thought it would be. It was very engaging, which was needed after a long day of walking around. While my feet were dead, I did enjoy the demonstrations of the machines. I have always been interested in old printing methods, so it was cool to see how they work and were developed over time.

I rode my first ever double decker bus and got to enjoy a church service!
