May 8th: Day Three
Today was the earliest day we have had to wake up so far! We started our day off with a guest lecture at the CEA Center at 10am with a professor from Dublin University, whose name was Roddy Flynn. He talked to us about the history of Irish media regulations, along with some other history and facts about their media today.
Something that particularly caught my attention during the lecture was the 1923 Censorship of Films Act. Thousands of films were banned between 1923 to 1960, which is crazy. The government basically said “You cannot see this, because we do not agree with it”.
After the lecture, a few of us decided to walk down the side of the cannel, and to these different cafes and shops. We decided to stop and eat at Insomnia Coffee, where I got this chicken sandwich, which was really good, a croissant, and an iced chai latte. I love chai lattes, so I am always excited to try a chai tea from a new place!
After lunch, we took a little walk before walking over to the National Print Museum. We were given a tour of the different printing machines, how they worked, and Sav even got to get a print with her name on it as a keepsake. It was really interesting to see how the older guys in the museum are keeping old types of work alive in a very modern era. It was also interesting to see how different the replication of mass media was under a century ago.

To wrap up our long day, we took a bus back to the apartments, where we ate dinner, then went to a choir mass at Christ Church. The building and architecture was beautiful, and especially the stained glass. It was a very eventful and long day, but it was really fun!
