Day Two: Dublin Walking Tour

Sleep is the best medicine. I awoke revitalized and ready for the day. My first activity was going to a local grocery store to grab some essentials(dessert and tea). However, this excursion is inconsequential compared to how I spent the bulk of my day: the Dublin walking tour.

The tour was educational and entertaining. Our tour guide was knowledgable and a very adept story teller. He tied the complex and often convoluted story of Ireland into the tour in a digestible manner. He walked us from site to site, stopping at certain spots for an insightful, yet pleasingly organic, educational speech.

Saint Stephens Green is so far my favorite spot in Dublin. The way the trees and foliage line the perimeter of the park creates a barrier separating it from the surrounding city. When I entered the iron gate I found myself in a new and starkly different environment. One where you could smell freshly mowed grass, hear birds cawing, and see lush plans and water topped with algae. I liked seeing the people of Dublin leisurely laying throughout the park. It was nice seeing people move and interact with each other throughout the park, from uniformed school children to working adults taking a well deserved break from the exasperation that comes with daily life. One thing I found particular interesting was something the tour guide said. He informed us that the park had been given to the people of the family by the Guinness company. I like that, the benevolence of a local institution, fueled by beer.
